Water based Protective Coatings, Strippable Coatings |
| |
Introduction: |
| |
General Chemical's Peelkleer 5358 is a
clear water removable or strippable coating.
This temporary protective coatings
is meant for various applications such as
paint booths, windows
and light fixtures where paint over spray accumulation must be readily removed. Protective Coatings such as 5358 can be used for shipping or storing parts.
If used in a paint booth, it will maximize illumination and remain non-dusty. Thus, application of Peelkleer 5358 coating in
paint booths will result in optimum paint finish and minimize rejects. |
| Peelkleer 5358 represents the ultimate in
non-solvent strippable coatings. It is well
stabilized against brittleness and it
will not be softened or penetrated by solvent-based paints. |

| |
Peelkleer 5358 is applied by
an airless spray gun or by roller coating
and brushing. Sprayed coating is air-dried from 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on thickness of coating. Peelkleer 5358 is usually applied to form a film, thickness in the range of 1 to 3 mil (.001" to .003"). Coating is usually resistant to attack by paint solvents. Spraying temperature shall be 60 F minimum. For best results, apply at room temperature. |

During removal, water hose-down type coatings will oftentimes be mixed into the paint spray booth water compound system. Peelkleer 5358 coating is normally compatible with this kind of system. |
| |
Peelkleer 5358 is uniquely formulated excluding ingredients that are deleterious to the painting process (such as silicones) or the water wash system (such as foam generation or stabilizing ingredients). |

Operating Guidelines: |
| |
1.When applying Peelkleer 5358, use the same protection as used while applying paint. The booth ventilation system should be operating while the material is being sprayed.
| |
2.Chemical goggles and impervious gloves should be worn when handling or mixing. |
| |
3.Use of non-sparking metal is advised to scrape or spud to remove booth coating to avoid fire hazard from accumulated paint. |

First Time Application: |
| |
I. Pre-cleaning of Equipment: |
| |
To clean pressure pot, airless equipment, spray guns, spray lines, do the following:
| |
1.Flush equipment and lines with current paint thinner. (ex. Toluene, MEK, Xylene, etc.) |
| |
2.Follow with a water reducible solvent such as Butyl Cellosolve. This will help remove solvent residue. |
| |
3.Now thoroughly rinse with water. Make sure all solvent and paint residue are removed. |
| |
II. Pre-cleaning of Spray Booth Walls:
| |
To clean all surfaces where Peelkleer 5358 is to be applied, do the following if the last
peelable coating that was used was a solvent-based product ( this will aid in the first time peel/water removal of Peelkleer 5358 ) |
| |
1.Clean surface with butyl-cellosolve type cleaner.
| |
2.Remove all previous
peelable coating, oils and dirt, and solvent residue from surface. |
| |
NOTE: You do not have to do this cleaning step to have Peelkleer 5358 peel/water rinse off of the surface, although this aids in the first time water rinse/peel of the product. Second and continuous applications can eliminate this step. |
| |
3.You are now ready to use Peelkleer 5358.
