Protective Peelable coating Striprotect _ For Chemical Milling Maskants |
| |
Aircraft chemical milling processes |
| |
General Chemical Corp.'s line of chemical milling maskants provides both solvent based and polyurea based two component maskants which are used to allow aircraft manufacturers to chemical mill small amount of metal from larger parts to achieve weight savings. Maskants protect the metal in areas not exposed to the harsh chemical milling solutions. They are designed for complete protection from undercutting and are easily removed after the chemical milling operation is complete.
StriProtect 1800 maskant is designed primarily in the aerospace industry as this process is uniquely suited to reducing weight while maintaining strength on aluminum parts.
1800 is a two component maskants dispensed via automated equipment to allow improved performance while increasing health and safety through the removal of solvent-based maskants. Striprotect 1800 A & 1800 B is our leading two component maskant based upon novel polyurea chemistry. Our two component maskants enable the customer to realize substantial application cost savings through increased curing speed (minutes vs. 8 hrs for conventional solvent-based systems), curing at room temperature (whereas solvent masks quite regularly need to be heated for curing), improved application speed .
Specially developed for Chem-Mill and other etching processes. This cured product gives exceptional protectionagainst the corrosive action of hot caustic and strong acid solutions. |

Striprotect 1800 is a two component liquid with 100% Solids. It has ZERO VOC. It is fast drying and curing .THE GEL TIME FOR THIS IS ABOUT 8 SECONDS AND THE TACK FREE IS ABOUT 30 SECONDS. YOU CAN WALK ON IN WITHIN A MINUTE under normal conditions with no additional heat or other special curing requirements.
1800 must be applied by spray application. Striprotect 1800 is engineered for use as a temporary protective coating for fiberglass and acrylic bathtub and bath ware fixtures. Striprotect 1800 protects and provides an extremely tough and durable shield against damage during both the transportation and construction process. The elastic rubber-like nature of Striprotect 1800 allows it to absorb minor impacts. 1800 is also very a durable tough coating and thus helps make it very difficult for sharp objects to damage the bath tubs. Striprotect 1800 is also virtually resistant to water and thus eliminates need for plumbing drain test and weather issues.: |

1800 must be applied by spray application. spray equipment such as Plural-Component Proportioning Systems One such possible equipment supplier is Graco.com In addition, we recommend the GX-8 or Plastek mechanical purge spray guns.
1800 requires specialized metering spray equipment to correctly mix the components at the spray gun. We will make recommendations on the proper spray equipment supplier in your area. |
|
|
| |
Guidelines: |
| |
Mixing: The components are supplied in separate containers and must be used at the prescribed mixing ratio. Failure to mix the two components in the exact ratio and at the proper temperature will result in improperly cured film that can yield an unsatisfactory coating. Starting Ratio: 1:1 by weight (1:0 to 0.85 by volume) No thinning or other adjustments are required use as received from the Striprotect 1800 containers |
| |
| Mixing |
Use as received . Do not thin it. |

Operating Guidelines: |
|
| |
|
When applying, use the same protection as used while applying paint. The booth ventilation system should be operating while the material is being sprayed. |
|
Chemical goggles and impervious gloves should be worn when handling Striprotect . |
|
Do not store or expose below 32F 1800 A. Freezing Temperatures can form crystals and will affect the product performance. freeze thaw by re-heating may not function properly. |
|
Do not expose 1800 A or 1800 B liquid components to any form of moisture. When you vent a product to air, use in line dryer , other moisture removing mechanism and desiccant. |
|
Patch Test Because it is difficult to determine the type of substrate of the Tub such as type of acrylic perform a small test first. This will determine Striprotect effectiveness, coverage, and the approximate amount of time required for it to work |
|
Mask with tape or plastic film before spraying Striprotect 1800 all small, intricate or delicate parts such as whirlpool jets, strainer fittings or window tracks |
|
Coating must be applied of minimum thickness of 8 mils. Too thin coating will not be Peelable. |
|
Striprotect is resistant to water, however it is not meant to be water proofing material as water will eventually soften and attack the film. |
|
| |
I. Cleaning of equipment: |
| |
To clean the pressure pot, airless equipment, spray guns, or spray lines: |
| |
|
Flush equipment and lines with the current paint thinner (ex.toluene, xylene, or mek), |
|
Follow with a water reducible solvent, such as butyl cellosolve. This will help to remove any solvent residue. |
|
Thoroughly rinse with water. Making sure that all solvent and paint residues are removed |
