Solvent based Temporary Protective Coating

Dip or brush Peelable coating Masking stop-off formulated specifically for electroless nickel, hard coat anodizing and chemical milling.

Introduction:

PlateOff_Mask4210 is solvent based MASKANT Polymeric Vinyl Peelable Coatings provide protection in two ways; by forming tough, flexible films with extremely low , they stop substrate corrosion caused by electrolytic action or the presence of water-borne oxygen. In addition, the usually thick film provides physical protection against surface damage, abrasion or move and have proven that they provide a high degree of protection against acid and alkali attack.. 4210 is very easy way to apply strippable coating for the protection of substrates from scratching and marring.4210 is useful for substrate protection during polishing, handling and long term storage. 4210 is impregnated with transparent blue dye for easy visual inspection as well as identification and is non-staining and stable to 100 degrees Celsius.It is a liquid chemical maskant used as a stop off for anodizing, chromate conversion coating and other plating on metals. Mask-It is fast drying (usually dries quickly at room temperature and is resistant to most chemical processes normally required to anodize or electroplate.

It is completely resistant to hot solutions up to 210°F and is tinted blue for better scribe line visibility. The cured film is tack free and will not adhere to itself or other parts. plateOff_Mask4210 is designed to be used in following processes:

Features:

Easily strippable 4210 allows protection for any substrate in a plating manufacturing process.

Application:

PlateOff_Mask4210 should be stirred prior to usage and periodically if not used for extended periods of time.

Chemically and/or mechanically clean the area of the part to be masked. The area to be masked must be free of all dirt, oil or other contaminants. Cleaning is the most critical aspect of the masking procedure.

Apply PlateOff_Mask4210 to the area to be masked by dipping or brushing. For reducing PlateOff_Mask4210, use PlateOff_Mask4210 REDUCER only.

Apply a minimum of two coats depending upon the type of plating/chemical solution and/or length of processing time in solution. Allow at least 30 minutes air-dry time between coats and overnight air-dry time after application of final coat before introduction into solution. Faster drying of PlateOff_Mask4210 can be accomplished by force drying for 15 minutes in an oven not exceeding 140_ F or over a hot plate not exceeding 140_ F for 15 minutes. Drying over a hot plate is preferable to oven drying. Drying time will vary according to relative humidity. NOTE: Make sure PlateOff_Mask4210 has lost all solvent odor before force drying or applying additional coats.

PlateOff_Mask4210 will not withstand extended periods in hot alkaline solutions. Two (2) minutes is the maximum time permitted.

PlateOff_Mask4210 can normally be peeled from the part after use if the part is warm. For mass stripping or removal from recessed areas, use: 1. PlateOff_Mask4210 Reducer; 2. Toluene.

Curing:

4210 will cure tack-free within 10 minutes after application. This is dependent upon temperature, humidity and thickness of coating. Deviations from application section will require adjustments in the curing times, as well as in the strip ability parameters.

Curing may be accelerated by forced drying at 110 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 to 7 minutes.

It is imperative that 4210 be thoroughly cured and dry, with no solvent odor being emitted before an attempt is made to strip the coating from the substrate. Substrates should not be stored in airtight containers until the 4210 is completely cured.

Storage:

4210 should be stored in the original shipping container with temperatures between 60 and 90 degrees F, in an explosion proof environment. Containers should be sealed until needed. Protection from freezing is necessary.

Removal:

4210 is readily removed from surfaces by peeling.
