Main Advantages: |
| |
Offers cost-effective protection during storage, transport and fitting. A tough weather-resistant film, withstands foot traffic, scratching and solvents overspray. It removes cleanly without leaving residue. |

BoatPeel Peelable Masking Compounds: |
| |
Results in a reduction of labor costs. |
Once cured, it provides an extremely tough, uniform film thickness. |
Curing time can be cut considerably with the use heat lamps (100F), circulation of air and other factors. |
Easily removed...peels off in sheets which eliminates messy hand scrapping |
Safe...non flammable |
Suitable for all substrates including polycarbonates, plastic and painted surfaces |

Description: |
| |
General Chemical's BoatPeel strippable coatings dries to form a contour-hugging skin-tight protective film on non-skid Glass Reinforced Plastic GRP and other surfaces to protect from damage caused by staining, surface scratches from air hoses, electrical cables and hand tools. This prevents costly clean-up during and upon completion of Boat Building |
| |
General Chemical BoatPeel strippable coatings can be used over a range of non-porous substrates both inside and out including high gloss lacquered furniture, sanitary ware, acrylic windows and stainless steel fittings. |
| |
The General Chemical BoatPeel is a water borne non-toxic and non-hazardous product which is applied by lamb’s wool roller. It peels away cleanly leaving no residue and will not damage plastics or painted surfaces. |
| |
For the long-term storage of GRP moulds or for long periods of transport where boats may be exposed to severe weather conditions or dirt and fall out the Preservation System topcoat should be used. |
| |
General Chemical strippable coating is also used to protect heavy traffic areas and sensitive surfaces against staining and abrasion during construction, storage and transport. Simply roll on and peel off on completion. The tough film is weather-resistant, UV and solvent resistant. |

QUESTIONS ABOUT APPLICATION & INSTRUCTIONS FOR PEELABLE COATINGS |
| |
Standard air assisted, or airless spray equipment, Brush or Roller (Use lambs wool roller). |
| |
Apply to achieve a minimum wet film thickness of 250 microns = 100 microns DFT (dry film thickness). IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ACHIEVE AN EVEN DFT OF MIN 100 MICRONS. As anything less may result in the film becoming difficult to remove. |
| |
Try to avoid 'feather edges' or areas where it is applied thinly. In order to achieve a defined edge it may help to apply masking tape, roller up to and over the tape and remove tape while BoatPeel Peelable coating is still wet. |
| |
Boatpeel 4980 was developed primary to protect the primed metal surfaces of ship wing building phase. The coating is to be applied during warm months, 55F to 100F and stripped 60F to 110F. The dry film is fortified not to burn. Test was conducted on stripped dry film over open fire. The film charred but did not support burn. |
| |
The BoatPeel should be applied at around 150 microns min. DFT or heavier over rough surfaces or areas of heavy foot traffic. |

Repair: |
| |
If the BoatPeel film rips or tears, the flap may be lifted and resealed by applying a fresh wet coat to the underside and resealing. Alternatively, cut away flap and re-apply fresh coating, it will bond to itself. |

External Weather Resistance : |
| |
Long-term exposure to sunlight will cause premature deterioration and brittleness of the film. Exposure to water after the film is dried will soften the film but it will recover once it dries. Avoid traffic over the wet or while the film is wet. If components are to be stored externally for several weeks we recommend the application of acrylic topcoat which will protect for 12 months and more. |
Drying Time : |
| |
It is critical that BoatPeel Peelable coating film is allowed to cure dry. Drying time will vary according to humidity, temperature and weather condition. The evaporation of water will be speeded by air movement and warmth supplied by natural and mechanical means. |

Adhesion: |
| |
BoatPeel is a temporary protective peelable coating and adhesion is low. |
| |
Process: |
| |
BoatPeel once completely dry is resistant to water and solvent and acts as a mask against sprayed emulsion paints, lacquers, oil or grease and water. |

Removal: |
| |
The dry BoatPeel strippable coating film can be easily removed either by hand stripping or other means. BoatPeel coatings are thermoplastic. Do not try to remove in freezing conditions. BoatPeel becomes brittle in freezing condition. |

Cleanup: |
| |
BoatPeel is a water-based product and you can clean spray equipment and brushes with water. Do this immediately before peelalbe coating starts to dry. |
