Our DeconPeel coatings are formulated to protect
your nuclear facility by reducing hazardous
residues. Deconpeel are peelable coatings and
are proven products. They are innovative,
economical and easy-to-use. In addition, their
non-toxic composition ensures their safe
application and easy disposal.
Strippable Coatings. With this process a plastic
membrane or coating (such as polyethylene, or
large number of small, spherical silicon carbide
pieces polyvinylchloride) is put on the
contaminated surface. attached to the ends of a
corresponding number of This coating material is
best applied with a brush-stiff nylon bristles.
The resulting coating is peeled off, loose
surface contaminants are removed with the
coating.
Strippable coatings are also often used to
prevent the recontamination of decontaminated
surfaces. This process has been extensively
used in the nuclear industry. |

Temporary Protective Removable coatings
For Decontamination , Strippable
Coatings For Nuclear decommissioning:
When a decision to terminate operations
at a nuclear facility is
implemented, the building and site must
be decommissioned to protect the public
and DOD personnel from
unacceptable residual contamination. The
decommissioning process is intended to
render a facility such that it
poses no radiation health safety hazards
which would limit use or
demolition of the remaining facility.
There are two main
applications for our strippable coatings
in Decontamination process ::
1. As a Peelable coating in order to
prevent contamination taking place on
the surfaces of objects such as robots,
glove boxes or modular containment
systems which would otherwise become
contaminated by low radiation dust
particles.
The Peelable coating is
first applied to the clean surface. As
this coated surface becomes
contaminated by the ensuing process
subsequent layers of peelable coating is
applied to encapsulate and capture
the contamination. The whole dry
strippable film may then be stripped
away for disposal as dry waste.
2. As containment or tie down. Our
strippable coating is applied used to
contain surface contamination is
available in many colors
and is applied by spray, roller or
brush.
Typical customer Inquiry:
Dear Sir / Madam, Please could I have
some more information (Tech data sheet,
MSDS and cost) on your DeconPeel 4580?
Is it suitable for use on concrete
surfaces? If not can you recommend an
alternative? We intend using it to 'tie
down' contamination on the walls of a
cooling pond located on a Nuclear site.
Please contact me if you require any
further information, Thanks for any
assistance you can offer, Design
Engineer.
"I am in process of developing methods to decontaminate a process
hot cell that has a film of residual
solids left after the evaporation of
Hydroflouric Acid, Boric acid, Nitric
Acid and Aluminum Nitrate chemicals that
contained relatively high concentrations
of disolved cadmium, boron, uranium and
zirconium. Do you have a product that is
compatible with these chemicals to use
to help strip off and minimize the
contamination on walls and floors made
of welded stainless steel?"
Customer Inquiry : Nuclear application -
a strippable coating to bind up and help
remove solidified residuals of the
following liquids: Zirconyl Nitrate in
2M Nitric Acid; Aluminum Nitrate 2 M
with 30 g/L cadmium Nitrate;
Hydrofluoric Acid with 12 g/L Boron,
cadmium sulfate, Nitric Acid 13M with 30
g/L cadmium nitrate. These acids would
have zirconium alloys, uranium and
transuranic isotopes dissolved in them.
The materials have dried to a
crystalline powder on sst and hastaloy
surfaces.
Also, small volumes of these liquids
will be spilled on the applied coating
over a period of 12 months prior to
removal.
Do you have a coating that can be
applied over a wet surface? There
appears to be a wet layer at the bottom
of some of the thicker layers of these
materials. Also, we may wash down the
surfaces with high pressure water prior
to applying the coating and do not have
a good means of drying the surfaces
other than allowing the ventilation flow
to dry it out over time. The radiation
levels are relatively high so this
coating will need to be applied be
sprayer using remote manipulators.2.
Typical customer Inquiry: Dear
Sirs, We at the A Nuclear Power
Station are in the middle of various
de-commissioning activities on site
prior to entering a long-term period of
care and maintenance.
One of the next activities to be
performed is the draining-down of the
concrete built reactor cooling water
ponds.
Our technical guys have suggested that
there might be the need to apply a
Temporary Protective Removable Coating
to the wet concrete surfaces of the
ponds after drain-down and power spray
cleaning to contain any contaminated
surface particulate and also prevent
airborne contamination.
This temporary coating would later be
peeled away taking any loose particulate
with it to be replaced with a more
permanent and hard-wearing coating.
We found your company name via the
internet and in the first instance would
be grateful if you could advise which
office/contact point within your group
would be the best recipient when we are
ready to issue a further detailed
enquiry.
If you can offer any suitable product(s)
or other related advice etc then we'd be
pleased to hear from you.
Our recommendations :4580 and
4000 are water based peelable coatings
that can be applied to a moist concrete
surfaces. Both products cure upon water
evaporation. The cured coatings are
clear(uncured coatings are milky)and
water resistant.
Peeling can only be accomplished with
cured coatings. We recommend a minimum
of 12 mils of wet coating to accomplish
good peel and debris pickup.

Decon Klean is concentrated liquid
cleaner formulated for many clean up
decontamination tasks - from loose
particle contamination to degreasing
tools and components to cleaning
decontamination areas of all sizes.
It can also be used for hand wiping
and floor mopping. Decon Klean is
safe and effective for use on
virtually all surfaces including
concrete and tile floors, painted
surfaces, fabrics, plastics, rubber,
neoprene, nylon, glass and most
metals. |

DeconPeel is a non-hazardous,
non-toxic solution formulated for
removing and preventing the spread
of radioactive contamination.
DeconPeel is used for the
decontamination of floors, walls and
equipment, and it is also suitable
for system components including
reactor cavities, gloveboxes and hot
cells. While curing, DeconPeel
mechanically and chemically entraps
contamination. After curing, the
coating strips off, along with loose
surface contamination. DeconPeel can
also work as a shiled or barrier to
prevent contamination or as a
covering to contain contamination.
DeconPeel has achieved
decontamination factors of several
hundred and proven effective. |

|
PolyShield is a water-based
non-toxic Polymeric Barrier solution
which forms an impermeable barrier
between hazardous or contaminated
materials and the environment. Apply
PolyShield to any surface and
various substrates to isolate and
lock down loose contamination and
prevent leaching of contaminates
after decontamination efforts.
PolyShiled is commonly used to
stabilize large plant components,
concrete, valves, and other
problematic radioactive waste items
prior to shipment. |
